Faisali secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hussein in a postponed Week 15 fixture of the CFI Jordan Pro League on Sunday at Amman International Stadium, in a match marked by intensity, discipline issues and missed opportunities.

Backed by strong home support, Faisali made an aggressive start, pressing high from the opening whistle. Their early dominance paid off in the ninth minute when Mohannad Khair Alla rose to meet a well-delivered set-piece from Ahmed Ersan, directing a precise header beyond goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila to give the hosts an early lead.

Faisali continued to threaten, with Ersan coming close to doubling the advantage in the 22nd minute following a determined solo run, only to be denied by a resolute Hussein defence. As the half progressed, the match became more balanced, with both sides exchanging spells of possession but creating limited clear-cut chances.

The contest took a decisive turn in the 40th minute when Hussein’s Mahmoud Deeb was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the visitors to navigate the remainder of the match with 10 men. The first half concluded amid visible tension, with strong challenges and frequent interruptions reflecting the high stakes of the encounter.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Hussein returned after the break with renewed determination, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. However, it was Faisali who threatened first, with Ersan’s free-kick drifting narrowly past the post early in the second half.

Hussein’s most notable opportunity came around the hour mark when Ali Hajabi’s header forced a sharp save from Faisali goalkeeper Nour Bani Atiah. The visitors increasingly relied on set-pieces, earning a series of corners and free-kicks, but struggled to convert pressure into goals.

Faisali thought they had doubled their lead when Abdul Ajagun found the net, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside. Hussein’s best chance arrived in the 84th minute, when Aref Haj broke through on goal but failed to convert in a one-on-one situation, much to the relief of the home crowd.

In the closing stages, Hussein pushed forward relentlessly, but Faisali’s defence held firm to secure all three points in a tightly contested encounter.

With the win, Faisali moved to 49 points, level with Hussein, although the latter still have a game in hand.

Action in Week 24 resumes on Tuesday, with Wehdat facing Shabab Urdun, while Sahab take on Ahli . Elsewhere, Jazeera meet Baqaa, Salt host Faisali, and Ramtha play Hussein.
