Minister of Interior Mazen Farraya and Qatari Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani held talks on Wednesday over ways to boost relations and shared interests between the two countries.
In a step that reflects the commitment of both sides to enhancing cooperation, the two ministries signed an executive action plan to implement the 2021 security cooperation agreement between Jordan and Qatar, according to a ministry statement.
Farraya and Sheikh Abdulaziz signed the agreement at the Ministry of Interior in Amman.
The executive plan aims to bolster and sustain cooperation between the two nations across several security areas, including combating corruption, organised crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and drug trafficking.
It also covers border security, protection of vital facilities and institutions, as well as enhancing civil defence collaboration.
As part of the plan, the two countries will facilitate expert exchanges, joint training, and mutual visits between civil defence professionals.
The cooperation will extend to sharing the best practices and curriculum development for civil defence academies, traffic management strategies and the exchange of data regarding vehicle and driver licensing systems.
Also, the agreement outlines cooperation in police academies and training, communication and IT systems, and the formation of a joint security committee between the two ministries.
Farraya stressed the “deep-rooted” ties between Jordan and Qatar, describing the relation between Amman and Doha as a “model of sincere Arab cooperation, rooted in the strong leadership and shared vision of His Majesty King Abdullah and Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.”
He praised the “high level” of coordination and joint efforts across multiple sectors.
During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed the latest regional developments, where Farraya briefed Sheikh Abdulaziz on the current challenges facing the region, underlining the importance of the newly signed plan in addressing these issues through joint action to protect the stability and security of both nations.
Sheikh Abdulaziz expressed appreciation for the “solid and longstanding” ties between Qatar and Jordan, stressing that the relationship continues to flourish under the wise leadership of both countries, paving the way for broader cooperation across all fields.
