Jordanian Campaign launches pilot bakery in northern Gaza, amid severe food shortages

The Jordanian Campaign, in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), has begun the pilot operation of a bakery in northern Gaza, aiming to provide fresh bread to families struggling with severe food shortages.

According to a statement published by Al Mamlaka, the campaign said efforts were underway to overcome logistical and operational challenges in order to run the bakery on a near-daily basis. The goal, it said, is to serve as many residents as possible amid growing humanitarian needs.

The campaign said that it has established three bakeries in Gaza’s centre, north and south in Khan Younis, two of them are operating, while a third one in Jabalia was destroyed during recent Israeli bombardment.

The campaign described the initiative as a critical intervention at a time when Gaza faces a sharp decline in the availability of flour and bread. “Ongoing difficulties in aid delivery, shortages of basic supplies, and rising prices have left many residents without access to essential food staples.”

As part of the “Jordanian Kitchen” initiative, the campaign has been delivering food aid to various areas in the north, centre, and south of the besieged enclave.

Also, JHCO has launched a daily bakery in southern Gaza, in cooperation with the Jordanian aid campaign, to provide bread to displaced Palestinians amid border closures, acute flour shortages, and soaring food prices.

The organisation said the bakery produces between 35,000 and 40,000 loaves of bread daily, benefiting thousands of displaced families as part of Jordan’s broader humanitarian assistance to Gaza by land and air.

Jordan’s humanitarian response also includes the “Restoring Hope” initiative, launched in September 2024 under Royal directives.

The programme aims to provide prosthetic limbs to individuals who have lost limbs as a result of the war. It is a collaborative effort involving the Royal Medical Services, the “Hakeem” programme by Electronic Health Solutions, and JHCO.

Jordan also operates two military field hospitals in Gaza. The first, located in the northern part of the Strip, was established in 2009 following the 2008 conflict. The second was set up in Khan Younis, in the south, in November 2023 at the height of the Israeli war on the coastal enclave that began on October 7, 2023.
