Safadi, EU’s Kallas discuss Iran-Israel tensions, urge return to diplomacy

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and European Commission Vice-President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on Monday discussed efforts to de-escalate rising tensions in the region.

During a phone call, the two officials stressed the urgent need to halt the escalation and resume diplomatic negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi warned of the serious consequences of the ongoing regional escalation intensified by Israel’s aggression against Iran. He also emphasised that efforts to ease tensions between Iran and Israel must not divert international attention from the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The top diplomat also reiterated Jordan’s call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the need to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid through relevant UN agencies.

Safadi and Kallas reiterated their shared commitment to working jointly to end regional tensions and promote viable political solutions that support stability and a just peace for all.

They also expressed a common interest in boosting the Jordanian-European partnership, with a focus on enhancing support across multiple sectors and maintaining close coordination on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
