The Spice of Life

On the occasion of International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day in Jordan, we pause to reflect on the profound role of mothers and women in shaping the future of our nation. Every society’s strength begins at home, in the nurturing hands of women, mothers, grandmothers and caregivers, whose influence sets the foundation for the next generation of leaders.

Mothers are the heartbeat of families, the guardians of values and the first guides who inspire children to dream bigger, act with purpose, and lead with compassion. Empowering women and mothers is not just a personal act, it is a societal imperative.

When women are supported, educated, and recognised, their ability to shape confident, ethical and resilient children multiplies, creating a ripple effect that strengthens communities, nations and the world.

Six Steps for Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders

Women are the first and most powerful builders of leadership and empowerment. Through their guidance, children learn not only to navigate the world, but also to create positive change.

The following six steps illustrate how women can cultivate the next generation of leaders:

1. Education: Leading by example

Education begins at home. Women are a child’s first teachers, role models and mirrors. Babies learn by observing their mothers’ actions and later their fathers’.

Teacher too lead by example. Showing integrity, kindness, curiosity and resilienceforms the foundation for lifelong learning. Educated and ethical women and mothers act as the first pillars of empowerment, instilling a love of knowledge and a sense of responsibility in children

2. Training: Turning knowledge into skill

Knowledge alone is not enough; it must be paired with the ability to act. Mothers and teachers are the ideal trainers, translating lessons into practical skills. Through patience, encouragement, and consistent guidance, children learn how to solve problems, express themselves and develop competence that will carry them throughout life

3. Developing continuous growth and exploration

Life is a journey of constant learning. Mothers, together with teachers and mentors, ensure that children have opportunities for growth, exposure to new ideas and skill-building experiences.

By nurturing curiosity and resilience, mothers and teachers help children become confident, capable and adaptive individuals ready to face the challenges of the future

4. Qualifying: Assessing potential and readiness

As children mature, it becomes essential to monitor their readiness for new responsibilities and challenges. Mothers, in collaboration with fathers and educators, evaluate their child’s growth, offering support where needed and guidance where appropriate. This ensures that each child reaches their full potential while maintaining balance, confidenceand ethical grounding

5. Delegating: Encouraging independence and responsibility

Empowerment grows through responsibility. Mothers and women who gradually entrust age-appropriate tasks and decision-making opportunities help children develop autonomy, critical thinking and self-confidence.

Delegation is an act of trust; withholding it can limit a child’s growth. Providing guidance while allowing freedom to make mistakes is a cornerstone of raising resilient leaders

6. Empowering: Building strength for life and society

True empowerment is achieved when children can act independently, yet remain grounded in ethical values and self-awareness. Women, through thoughtful delegation and consistent encouragement, enable children to take ownership of their lives. Empowered children become empowered adults, contributing positively to families, communities and nations.

Shaping ethical generations

Religious teachings and the wisdom of generations consistently affirm the central role of women and mothers in shaping ethical, educated and compassionate future generations.

In Jordan, as in other parts of the world, women are not only caregivers, but architects of societynurturing the skills, values and courage that allow the next generation to thrive.

On this special occasion, we extend our deepest gratitude to all woman and all mothers. Your unwavering love, guidanceand sacrifices are the invisible threads that hold families together and the foundation upon which our nation’s future is built.
