Minister of Youth Raed Adwan on Thursday met with UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan Shireen Retsima-Anderson, in the presence of the ministry’s Secretary-General Mazen Abu Baqar.
During the meeting, Adwan stressed the importance of boosting youth cooperation with UN agencies in Jordan, according to a Youth Ministry statement.
He highlighted the ministry’s key priorities, including empowering youth and enhancing their participation in political, economic, and social life, protecting young people from the dangers of drugs, and activating youth centres across three main areas: programme development, preparation of youth spaces, and capacity-building for youth workers.
He also noted that the ministry prioritises implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security, conducting the national youth survey to inform the 2026–2030 National Youth Strategy, promoting a culture of volunteerism, and supporting youth in the technology sector through business incubators.
Additionally, the ministry focuses on programmes that enhance youth engagement in environmental, health, and sports initiatives, the statement said.
Anderson commended the ministry’s leadership as the official umbrella for youth work in the Kingdom, emphasising the ongoing partnership between the ministry and UN agencies in awareness, education, and training initiatives.
She added that the UN views youth as a vital partner in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
